While visiting The Tucker Family Cemetery, the pleasure of speaking with Walter Jones was granted. Jones is a direct descendant of William Tucker, who is noted as the 1st enslaved Alkebulan/African child born in Hampton of the Virginia colony. By happenstance or coincidence, this moment was beyond incredible!

American Civil War Quartermaster, Brother's Keeper and Norfolk Virginia's 1st Black Councilman (1885) . Councilman Fuller is believed to have been born between 1844 and 1846. He served in several roles of leadership before passing away in 1909 . His persistence acquired a proper burial place for Black Union Civil War soldiers in the city of Norfolk, Virginia and more. Nat Turner's Avenge - August 21, 1831 (Jerusalem/Courtland) Southampton County, Virginia.
"You have asked me to give you a history of the motives, which induced me to undertake the late insurrection, as you call it. To do so, I must go back to the days of my infancy, and even before I was born." Nat Turner.
The impact of Nat Turner's Avenge sparked conversations about emancipation decades before the American Civil War. In honor Nat Turner's life and legacy, read more about his contributions in the Virginia Natives section of our Blog.

It's atrocious to discuss American History without acknowledging the Black ancestors and Soldiers who fought for their liberty against the systematic oppression in the institution of slavery

Mary Smith Peake's Tree is also known as The Emancipation Oak, which is where the 1st official reading of The Emancipation Proclamation in The South took place 💪🏿
On April 1, 1868 (Hampton Univeristy) was established as Hampton Normal and Agricultural Institute. Today, H.U. is 1 of 5 Historically Black College University's (H.B.C.U.) in the state of Virginia

On April 9, 1865, the Civil War ended at Virginia's Appomattox Courthouse, when the Army of the confederacy surrendered to the Union Army 🔥
The end of the Civil War helped the Emancipation Proclamation by stopping "states' rights" for slavery, and legally ended slavery in the United States 🎉
The enslaved ancestors in Texas did not find out about the end of the Civil War until June 19, 1865 #Juneteenth
Three Significant Amendments were added to the United States Constitution between December of 1865 - February of 1870 📃
13 - Abolished slavery except for in the form of servitude ⛓️
14 - Gave citizenship to all people born in the U.S., reversing the 1662 Virginia Colonial law of heredity slavery 🌎
15 - Legalized voting rights for Black men 🗳
